May 2011 Citywide Main Gathering

Our May 21 speaker will be Joe Zamecki, who is the Texas State Director for American Atheists and one of the three co-founders of Atheists Helping the Homeless, and has been an Atheist activist in Austin since 2006.

Joe's talk will be about protests of an annual National Day of Prayer event in Austin, expanding Atheists Helping the Homeless, and gathering ideas and help for future Atheist activist events in Texas.

Joe grew up in Houston and attended Holy Ghost School in Bellaire, and wrote a book about it, "Leaving the Quiet Room." Join us to take advantage of the chance to meet the author and purchase a signed copy!

Our speaker will be Anthony Pinn, the Agnes Cullen Arnold Professor of Humanities and Professor of Religious Studies at Rice University. His topic will be "The Impact of Atheism on African American Religion."

Our newly elected Vice-President, Don Wright, will be making a presentation entitled "The State of the Union is not Great". He will also be discussing religion in the African American community.
